Sleeplessness & Food Game [read for more details]
Is there such word? Well it didn’t came up on the spell check so I guess there is. Anyways, a change from my “char siu baos” posts, here’s something a bit more person. Warning thought, I’m typing whatever is coming out of my brain so it might be full of typos and confusion.
Over the past few days I’ve been having trouble sleeping. I don’t know whether it’s because of excessive napping (I was sick and slept for most of the day) so I couldn’t sleep at night, or I’ve been doing too much thinking. Maybe it’s a combination of the two. There are a few things on my mind, like career, the future and of course food. Yes, Jan has entered the “the thinker” mode. Usually I got a rough plan of what I want to do and set stages to make it happen (or at least try to get as close to completion as possible). This had worked well for me since highschool but now it doesn’t seem work so well anymore. It feels that some of my plans are now off track and it’s not exactly up to me to move them back on track because they depend on other co-efficients. It just bugs me since I can’t seem to find a way round it to make it work. For example, I might have a plan for myself but it’s under control of another person’s decision or the economy. Ok, I might not be able to change much about the economy but I’ve tried to twist some arms so things would still go according to how I visioned but that have proved to be difficult. Feels like I’m hitting my head against the wall doing that. Anyways, thinking about all this had given me a few lines on my forehead so I’ll try to put it in the back of my mind for now. Although, I can be pretty persistent so I’m sure I’ll try that head-hitting-the-wall thing in a few months’ time.
As for career, I’m at a complete lost. I seem to run into places with too many dramas and more turnovers than your average bakery. My probation period is almost up but I feel there are still a lot of uncertainties with my current company. First and the biggest problem for me is that they have a very very poor finance system. Every week I get emails or calls from vendors asking for payment which are like 2+ months overdue. It’s not the first time I’ve handle late payments so I can usually smooth things over and buy some time but when it drags on for months, I lose creditability also. Secondly, I don’t think people are making the most cost effective decisions (of course this ties back to the money thing). Maybe it’s my Chinese “money-saving” nature but spending $1,000 on a few envelops and letterhead is like buying expensive one-ply toilet paper. Those things get ripped and thrown away so why would I want to pay so much for them? Lastly, since I’ve started there, we’ve had turnovers every month and that’s pretty scary. I guess not as scary compared to where I used to work a couple years ago, but still… makes you wonder. I’m having my review next week (or at least that’s the plan for now), do you think I should mentioned the above as my “concerns”? I’m sure they’ll be asking me how I felt about working there…etc.
RE: McGriddles – [lol] I can’t believe they have those warning signs. I used the eat them once in a while, since way back when they first came out, there’s a McD close to my internship office and I’d pick up breakfast there a couple times a week. I wonder if that’s the reason why I lost weight……o_o
Brian: I missed our food games. I remember how fun it was when we clog the guild chat with it. Lets see if we can bring it back here!
The Food Game:
Ok the rules are simple, you are to type a food name beginning with the last letter of the food the person before you mentioned. It must be something you’ve eaten or seen before (so no cheating with Google and just name a random food). Here’s an example:
Jan: Strawberry
Brian: Yogurt
I’ll start first and you can type yours in the comment. If someone post a food name in their comment before you, just reply to it in your comment. [hehe] If you are stuck and ran out of food [gasp], you can begin a new game.
Here’s the first food: Almond

Donuts!!! Hehe.. it has become quite a craze in Singapore lately… But I cant really understand why people are willing to join very very long queues for 30mins or so to buy them…
Hope ya are feeling better Ara… and Happy 2008 to you too!! Sorry for late reply.. but coz my comp crashed after xmas, and I only reformatted it recently.. Had been a lil busy with some company events and had no internet or comp access for more than 2 weeks..
Yea.. agree it can get a lil frustrating when ya personal goals becomes dependent on outcomes of other people actions/decisions… or when ya have to compromise them for career/family.. but i guess that’s wat made life interesting..
Do take care and keep in touch too!!
Strudel
LAMB (chops, rack of) mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
The next food word is on my next post! See if you can find it.
