I haven’t been to Granville Island for a long time, probably up to 5 years or more. The main reasons are a) I don’t drive and b) taking the transit there is a bit of a hassle sometimes especially on the weekends. However, this month I was able to visit it not once, but twice! Al hate going there because of the traffic and parking chaos (it’s super busy there on weekends and holidays) but when we found a hand-made sake store there, the twins are much more willing to travel to Granville Island.
The area haven’t changed much since I last went, the additions of new workshops/stores seem to blend in with the existing buildings so nothing really stood out. My favourite place at Granville Island is the Public Market. It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve visited there, I’ll always be able to try something new. The first time we came after lunch, this time we had a light meal before arriving so I finally got a chance to try Kaisereck Deli’s sausages!
Check out those sausages! How can you resist not eatting them? They are pretty big so we got 2 to share between the three of us. We loaded them up with relish, mustard and ketchup. The funny part about eatting those smokies (giant hotdogs) is that my first bite usually does not have any of the sausages since the toppings tend to ooze out towards the side of your mouth/face and you want to quickly eat them up first (lol).
After that tasty hotdog, you’d want to drink something to get that mustard taste off your mouth. The place I’d recommend is the Granville Island Tea Company. They have so many different kinds of tea it’d take you about 5 minutes to decide what to order. We got a strawberry green tea. The aroma was so strong that you can smell the strawberry sweetness even with the cap on the cup. Like aways, I burnt my tongue while trying to get some of those strawberriness
It’s hard to miss Stuart’s Bakery when you’re at Granville Island Public Market. Why? Because there’re always huge line ups around the shop! I’m talking about two line ups, not one! Just look at those yummy baked goods. No explanations required!
Check out the Granville Island website for information on the stores and events.
Next up: Artisan Sake Maker + Edie Hats (plus silly pics of me trying those hats!).
