Granville Island Adventure [Part 2] Chocolate (Espresso) Brownies [Recipe]
Apr 11

Ok before people start chewing my head of about this whole dieting thing (yes, I’m talking about you Chu), let me tell you the things that have steered me into joining this weight loss bandwagon.

Post-Winter Syndrom

So after pigging out during Christmast, New Year and Chinese New Year, the weight of the food finally started to sink in. Yes, my stomach is a bit…behind in schedule. I used to not eat the skin from the roasted pork but I’ve been doing that and now I sort of regret it (but they tasted sooooo gooooood). Also, since summer is coming and Al’s been bugging me to get a swimsuit (he bugs me like every summer but I never got one, haha), I think it’s time to slim down a bit.

Weddings

In less than a month I’ll be attending two weddings. As all of you know, I’ve not exercise since like…ages ago (4-5 yrs?!). Whatever muscles I had before have all turned into jiggly flabs, especially the ones from my legs! I doubt I’d be able to shape them up in time for the weddings but hopefully they’d be a bit leaner for my wedding photos. Normally I wouldn’t be worried since for wedding photos, the dresses are usually long and cover your legs (and feet sometimes!) but I’d be wearing dresses up to my knees for the two weddings so at least my calves would be showing. Most people thinks I’m skinny but that’s only because I hide myself very well with jeans and T-shirts. You’d be surprised when you see me in the dresses in May. (Wearing a dress is already a surprise in itself, the flabby calves are bonus…*sob*)

The flabby feeling

I’m sure some of you have felt this way before too. Like there’s this sudden realization that you feel…flabby. Then you check your arms and like, wow, they do jiggle. Or you look down and see your tummy sticking out. Well, I’ve already come into terms with my tummy. I acknowledge that it will never be flat like some washboard because as much as I wish it’d be like that, I just love to eat too much. And what happens when you fill a balloon with air? It grows and that’s what my tummy is like. The only way out I guess is to work on abs.

Alright now that you’ve heard some of the reasons, lets move on to “The Plan”. I’m trying to slim down and get some muscles but keeping my weight about the same. I know cutting back on food doesn’t work because I’ve actually tried doing it. I just can’t see myself not eatting stuff like ice cream, chocolate, fast food, pop, baked goods…etc. I’d rather die than to cut back on those!

So the alternative is to try and eat healthy to make up for my bad eatting habits. I already get lots of fruits since my mom’s a health nut and makes me and Dave eat like 3-4 different kinds of fruits everyday when we have dinner at home. I’ve gone for a week of eatting fat free yogurt + granola for lunch. I found that it helps as it keeps you feeling full all afternoon (althought I do squeeze in a jello for snacking at 3:00) and it’s like only 250 calories. Once I start hitting the gym or schedule in more exercise, it’d be easier to slim down than just trying to reduce my eatting portion. Also exercise is like the only way to firm up my fatty legs.

Now, the tricky part: How do you get baby fat off your cheeks?! My cheeks are one of the things I just never learned to love. I’ve never liked my smile and I blame it on my cheeks. I envy those with high cheek bones and very defined facial features. Mine looks like the pieces (eyes, nose, mouth…etc.) just got slapped together. Actually it’s more like a blown ballon and someone drew a face on it. Anyways, there’s like no real “natural” methods to get rid of them so I guess I’ll just take less pictures. Hahaha!

One Response to “Jan’s Dieting?!”

  1. Chu Says:

Hai…u’re really already too slim to begin with but I give u props to be healthier and hitting the gym. One of the key for healthier eating is cut the trans fat…but well, haha, since u’re not giving up the ice cream, chocolate and worse of all, fast food, there’s not much u can do there. Yogurt & granola is ok but get in some protein - else the muscle u’re trying to build won’t build.

For calves, try simple things like calf raise, normal, w/ toes pointing in then w/ toes pointing out. Do 3 sets, each set = 20 of each (so 60 in total). Once u get the hang of it, hold a dumb bell in each hand to build strength.

Also, do the cardio - don’t just do strength training or toning. Regardless of how much u may hate it, u need it.

As for your cheeks, there’s nth u can do. Trust me, I’ve tried. U can only get the overall effect, ur face will shrink as u get fitter…

Anyways, haha, long enuf reply for me lu =p
