The short answer is - YES.
**The following contains semi-detailed information on my personal underarm waxing experience. Readers should proceed at their own discretion.**
So I’ve always been a shaving person since it’s quick and I can do it at home. There’s just one little problem with shaving the underarm - sometimes there are hair that just doesn’t want to get trimmed off and ended up leaving the area with tiny little black dots. Usually that doesn’t bother me much since why would people ask you to lift your arms up so they can check your pits right? However as I have a couple of weddings to attend as well as the wedding photo session this summer, I’ve been thinking maybe I should get rid of those annoying hair for longer than just a day or two.
I’m presented with two options: waxing or laser hair removal. I’ve looked up some information on both and decided that I’ll give waxing a try first. It seems like a quicker solution which should free me from a week or two of shaving.
To prepare the area for waxing, I was told to let the hair grow for about a week so the wax can actually grab on to it. Also, hair grows at different cycles, giving it some time to grow allows for a cleaner hair removal. However, after about 5 days, I couldn’t handle having underarm hair so I called to make an appointment today. I don’t know how to explain it. It just feels weird having hair where there usually isn’t any (at least not that long).
I went to the Pink Nail Spa which is located near Joyce Skytrain Station. It’s pretty small but the staffs there are really friendly. The whole process took about 15 minutes. The esthetician (sorry I was so nervous that I forgot her name) first applied some body oil and baby powder on the area. Then she spread the hot wax (which isn’t really that hot) and put a piece of cloth over the wax. After rubbing it for about 10-15 seconds, this is what happened:
Esthetician: “Are you ready?”
Jan: “Noooo. Don’t ask me, you’re making me nervous.”
*giggles*
*silence*
*rip*
*hot, stingy, burning sensation*
Jan: “Oh that wasn’t so bad. The ripping sound kills though.”
Esthetician: “Ya, now are you ready for another?”
It seriously wasn’t as bad as I thought but it is still painful. It’s like someone peeling off extra strong duck tape from your skin. After waxing both arms, the burning feeling stayed for about an hour and the area was reddish which is normal. I still have a bit of hair left because my hair is very fine and the wax didn’t catch all of it so I’ll need to get those last few strands by shaving.
Would I go back and get my underarm waxed again? Maybe. I’ll see how long this last before making a decision. I might try laser hair removal but I’ll probably do that in the fall/winter time if I do try it.

The stinginess went away in few hours but it’d occasionally feel sore during the first day. Now it’s all better and it’s so smooth~~~~
