EAT! Vancouver
by Jan on May 25, 2008
Ok so it’s past 12:00am so I’d have to say, “yesterday” after the trip to the Apple store, Al and I went to check out EAT! Vancouver in BC Stadium. This is my first year attending this event so I was really excited.
We timed it so we’d arrive at about noon time. Just in time for lunch! After getting a goodie bag from the volunteers by the entrance, we entered the stadium where food surrounded us (yum!). It was still early so there wasn’t a lot of people around. We bought our food tickets and proceeded to check out the stands. There were about 15 stands selling a variety of food. I didn’t want to buy anything just yet so we both decided to check out the exhibitions and find the different stages where some shows were already taking place. As we move up and down the rows of exhibits, we got to try different stuff like rice, chicken, ice cream, pudding, sausages, smoked fish…etc. We got to try a lot of stuff that we never noticed at the supermarkets.
After about an hour of sampling, we were both pretty full. Having food in the stomach means I can finally drink! So we made our way to the wine pavilion where we each grabbed a glass and went around tasting different wines. There were more beer exhibits than wine I found. The most interesting one was the iced apple cider. It was really good and I’d definitely look for it at the BC Liquor stores. When we entered the wine pavilion, we were just in time to catch the Wine & Cheese Pairing seminar by Wine Diva. It cost 4 tickets ($2) per person and since we got so many tickets left over we decided to join the seminar. It was well worth the money. We got to taste 4 different types of cheese and wine and learned how to create a cheese platter for a party.
We didn’t spend too much time watching the celebrity chefs or cooking competition. We did managed to catch the show on Tojo and Bob Blumer. Overall it was a great exhibition and I’d definitely go back next year!
Here are some of the pictures I managed to take while stuffing my face with food. More photos are on my Picasa album.
