From a Marketer To A Baker?
by Jan on December 7, 2010
I had a very engaging conversation with a friend recently on the topic of career change. Her husband is planning to quit his job and go back to school full time to change his career. This kind of got me thinking about what I had always wanted to do – baking and selling my baked goods. This might sound strange as it had nothing to do with what I studied in university or what I’m doing now, but I’ve had this little dream of opening my own bakery/cafe for the past 10 years.
I still want to see if I can make this dream come true, or some form of it. However, I’m also a person that likes the feeling of security, having a stable income is a big deal for me. Especially now that we have to pay off the wedding and in the process of getting our own place, which means paying off mortgage. I feel that it might be too risky to drop everything and go back to school, with no guarantee that I’ll get a job after. So after giving it some thought, I think what I’ll do is finish up the wedding and settle down first (after the move and all that), then work on a plan to get this dream started. It’ll need a lot of motivation on my part, since I’m easily distracted with video games (#1 distraction!) and other “adventures” such as fooding and travelling.
