It’s been almost a long time since my last. The first 6 months of 2011 was pretty exciting. There were lots of little side projects to keep me busy and of course Al and I had to prepare for our wedding which happened just a week ago. Now that everything is over, I’m thinking of taking a few weeks to relax and freshen up before starting a new series of projects.

To mark our beginning together, I’m move my personal blog over to our shortynme.com domain. There I will post about our everyday muses, recipes and my path to learning photography. Drop by to say hi at our new blog.

Ok the title is a little misleading but I’ll explain about that later. This post is about an incident I witnessed last month while driving in the Central Square parking lot. For those that don’t know where it is, Central Square is the little mall complex right across from Aberdeen Centre in Richmond. Here’s the Google Map location.

I happened to be at Lido for lunch with a couple of friends and took the Hazelbridge Way exit on our way out. While heading towards the exit, there was a Land Rover 2 cars a head of us and a van (can’t remember what make it was) that’s on the opposite traffic direction. I couldn’t see who signaled first but it appeared both of these cars were waiting for the same parking spot.

Once the parking spot became available, the van pulled in. Now this had happened to me before and I was furious. I think I cursed the driver for a good 2-3 minutes while I storm off to look for another spot. However, the driver of the Land Rover took another way of dealing with this. She pulled up behind the van (thank god for that because now we can finally move towards the exit, was stuck there for about 2 minutes), got out and opened the van’s passenger door and started yelling at the driver inside. I couldn’t hear what was going on but from her expression, it’s probably not “please give me my spot back”.

By this time I was at the exit waiting for a chance to pull out and from the rear view mirror, I saw she got back into the Land Rover and to my surprise, the van pulled out. Now I’m really curious as to what she had said to the driver of the van. However, I think I would probably do the same if I was in the same situation. Who knows what she’d do if I don’t give her the spot?

Ok now as for the name. As my friends and I watch this unfold, we were thinking “Hey lets take a video and post it on YouTube!” Obviously we had watched too many of those videos from Hong Kong posted by people that happened to witness “interesting” scenes, like the guy doing some kung fu thing on the MTR and the boy who wouldn’t give up the empty seat next to him on the bus. The videos have mostly been named by the location plus either “boy”, “girl”, “old man”, “grandpa” … etc. So as a joke, we thought we’d call this incident the “Central Square Girl” or “Lido Girl”, lol.

The cards I created about 2 weeks ago are here! I got them printed at Juke Box Print Shop with the special: 1000 cards for $59. The cards were printed on 14pt card stock with a matte finish. They looked great! The only thing that was a bit off was the colour, it looked a lot darker on print. This is probably my fault as I forgot to give them the CMYK numbers. Plus colours show up a little different on each monitor so I was expecting it to be a bit off.

Now that our cards are printed, time to hand them out when ever we can since we have 1,000 cards each to give out. Haha.

I’ve finally updated my WordPress and have switched to a more minimalist theme. What do you think?

Along with my side projects and the wedding planning, I’ve taken the time to finish designing personal cards for Al and myself. Both of us don’t have business cards from our current work place and we’d like to have our own for networking purposes. So here are the designs (both front and back):

Here's my card. P E T stands for Phone, Email, Twitter

Here's Al's.

I know the design looked very similar, that’s because after Al looked at mine he said he wanted one for himself. What do you guys think? I think the drawing of Al looked more like him than mine. Probably because my hair isn’t exactly like that. Hehe can’t wait to get it back from the printer.

The annual night market is here. This year, it’s called the Summer Night Market, which is not to be confused with the “Richmond” Night Market as it is put together by another group. The location, however, is at the same place where Richmond Night Market had been held for the past few years, right off Knight Bridge behind Bridgeport Road.

So far I’ve been to the Night Market more than 4 times already since they opened on May 21. Every time I go, I’d see one or two new vendor at the food section. There are old favourites which I’ve been counting on, such as the place for “wheel cakes”, Xin Jiang BBQ, Korean Street Food where they sell fried whole potatos and Dragon Beard Candies. This year there are a few notable additions such as the Roaming Dragon, BBQ Whole Cuttlefish and Sumo Bites. Well a picture is worth more than words so lets get on with the photos (be prepare to do some scrolling…and drooling) :

Dragon's Beard Candy - We waited 15 mins to get ours.

Very yummy.

The average price for most of the food is the same as last year. If I were to have dinner at the market it’d roughly cost me $15-20 which isn’t bad at all considering I get to try a lot of different foods. To save money (so I can eat more food instead of spending it on drinks) I usually don’t buy drinks like bubble tea at the night market. Plus I feel that it’s nothing special as I can get that any where. However, I must stay that if you’re in need of a drink after eating all the above yummy food, your best bet is either the Vietnamese Dessert drinks or Roaming Dragon’s Lychee & Basil Lemonade. The bits of lychee adds texture and sweetens the lemonade while the hint of basil gives it a very refreshing taste. I heard that Sumo Bites has a ginger cooler. I’ll give that a try next time I head down.
